Not-Irish Not-Coffee
Jan. 17th, 2017 03:27 pmThis week's Resolution Recipe: The Duke of Suffolk.
1.25 oz gin
equal parts Earl Grey and English Breakfast loose tea
simple syrup
cream
Brew 3.75 oz tea for four minutes. Sweeten with 1.25 oz simple syrup (3:1 ratio). Pour into an Irish coffee mug. Add gin and a dollop of cream.
What worked: This was delicious and way too easy to drink. A nice tea riff on Irish coffee. The wife, who does not particularly care for gin, did not taste the gin in this.
What didn't: I found it not strong enough tea-wise, not hot enough (shouldn't have steeped it in the Irish coffee cup), and too sweet. I'd brew the tea separately in a mug or other container with more thermal integrity, for five minutes or so, and add syrup in a 4:1 ratio instead.
Will I make it again? Definitely.
