I hate the vet keeping him for another day, but it's not due to the cost. Fortunately we are in a place that we can (gack) afford this massive vet bill, although I will gag when we get the credit card statement. I was just saying earlier in the week that we'd accumulated some extra cash, so I was looking at paying down my student loan a bit more, and...

But there's no question that this is more important. We love the little jerk. Maybe we can visit him tonight.

Yeah. :-( It’s so hard when they’re sick, but we gladly pay the bill because they’re our family. Just...expensive family. Cheaper than kids though, so there’s that...

My standard joke is that we don't have to save for college, but the cats never outgrow the Terrible Twos.

Both the wife and I had situations growing up where we couldn't afford/prioritize/whatever sufficient vet care. We can now and do.

One of the things I hold strongly against my mother was some years back when she had her cats put down because their care was getting inconvenient.
