We took Galen in for a checkup today. It was *cough* expensive - again - because they want to do a blood test to make sure the e.coli infection is cleared out of his kidneys. I'm not arguing the necessity, merely bemoaning the financial hit so soon after taxes. But there was never any question of doing it.

Galen was much better this time around. Last time they tagged him as "HIGH CAUTION" when he stayed there for four days. The vet had to put him on "extreme sedation" to take his blood and so forth. This time he hissed and spit a little, but didn't threaten to bite or claw. Although seeing the Hannibal Lecter cat-mask ready to go was kind of hilarious.

He's lost a bit more weight in the last month. They're assuming steroids for the rest of his life to pump him up make him eat more, and thin his 5x over-thickened intestinal wall so he can absorb more nutrients from what he does eat. Also regular B12 shots.

But hopefully we get more time with him, so that's what matters.

Sounds like a good path forward.

Most of our dogs have made it to the geriatric care stage. It is expensive, but you can't place a price on their lives. Enjoy your Galen.
