a new addition!
Aug. 11th, 2003 08:15 pmIt is with much joy and some trepidation that I announce a new addition to our family.
No, Dawn isn't pregnant. (wipes brow in relief)
We went to the San Francisco SPCA today and came home with a three-month old kitten!
He's a "snowshoe seal point" mix, according to the paperwork. Basically a Siamese blend with white paws and some tiger striping. He seems very friendly, although the SPCA says he's "undersocialized" and so we have to handle and pet him quite a bit. Oh, the horror. He's already gotten us pretty much wrapped around his paws.
We hadn't planned to necessarily come home with a cat at all; it was a "let's go see if someone adopts us" trip. And he did. Near-instantly, when he climbed up onto Dawn's shoulder, purring, then did the same to me, and started licking my chin.
No definite name yet. The SPCA called him "Simon", but we may change it to something more interesting. I kind of like "Abelard" (after all, he's already neutered) but it doesn't seem to fit him. So we'll try out a few this week.
It's been 20 years since Dawn had a kitten, and longer than that for me...

Date: 2003-08-12 03:33 am (UTC)It is just the best when they come to you like that. *sigh* young kitten love and all...
Post a photo when you can so we can all look on him adoringly okay?
We were to the point of wondering if a kitten should just be waiting for you some Friday night (we could have pulled a break-out act for the kittens out back) but this is so much better.
The Bear piped up with a gleeful shout from bed when I shared the news aloud with Shelby.

Nothing quite like the joy of kitten-tude (and a Siamese-y one at that! Cool!)
