This week's Resolution Recipe: Old-Fashioned Whiskey Toddy.
This is the first published recipe for an Old-Fashioned. The thinking is that the reporter recorded the recipe for a Whiskey Toddy, though - it isn't really an old-fashioned.
2 ounces rye
1/8 oz lump sugar + 1/8 oz warm water, or 1/4 oz simple syrup
dash of nutmeg
Muddle sugar and nutmeg; stir in water. Add whiskey and ice. Shake and strain. Dust with nutmeg.
What worked: This was delicious and easy. I am very fond of nutmeg, and have grown to quite like rye, so this was an obvious recipe to try.
What didn't: It was way too easy to drink.
Will I make it again? It is going in the cocktail book, yes.
