Shada Seen It Coming
Jan. 22nd, 2019 08:12 amWe finally got around to watching the hybridly-restored Doctor Who episode Shada. Originally due to air in 1980, it wasn't finished due to a BBC strike. Much has been made of it due to Douglas Adams writing it and Tom Baker as the (still best!) Doctor.
It was... okay. Very much of its time - cheesy costumes and special effects, wildly inconsistent in tone veering from attempting menace to goofiness. It probably didn't help that I already knew the plot: Adams strip-mined it for his second Dirk Gently book, which I didn't particularly care for anyway.
I'd forgotten that the reboot's lazy over-reliance on the sonic screwdriver as a magic wand was what I disliked about how they used K9 when it was present. Well, and the replacement voice sucked.
Worth seeing. Once.
