I'll try not to turn this journal into "All kitten, all the time" news. That said:

Last night, before putting up the previous post, I checked the SF SPCA website. Unfortunately (but not too surprisingly) they don’t have kitten pictures up, so I was unable to grab one of ours. We don’t have a digital camera, so no photos for now. You’ll all just have to visit to meet him. 8)

Anybody have suggestions for names? Dawn wouldn’t mind continuing the "philosopher theme" - our previous grande dame was named Socrates, and Dawn grew up with two or three more named in that vein. I went through the Monty Python philosopher drinking song but none of those fit. I’ve also considered Averroes, Abulcasim, Boethius, Galen (actually I kind of like that one), Newton...

Although, given his tendency to clamber up our bodies and perch on shoulders, Edmund Hillary also came to mind.

This morning it was difficult to do my usual shower-shave-and-go because he kept mewling while I was in the shower ("let me in!") and then he didn't want to stop with a five minute cuddle. Okay, neither did I, but I had to leave for work and he kept climbing back up my chest.

Suggestions: Names for Kittens

"Dog"
Rene' (as in 'Descartes')
Immanuel Kat
Fionn
"Crow"
Madeline Furry O'Hair
Millhouse
Professor R.H. Gumby ("Proff" for short)
Enos

For the record, our 2 cats are:

Percy (short for "Persistent" -- He's the overly-needy, licked-himself-bald neurotic black short-hair one), and
Dude (short for "Lucky Dude Looks Like a Lady" -- the long-hair silverback Persian with pedigree)

What, Nietzsche doesn't work?

I found a web site that may be useful for names: the Internet Encyclopedia of Philosophy (http://www.utm.edu/research/iep/).

Naming a kitten is half the battle. The other half is keeping all your good clothing and shoes from becoming kitten play toys. :)

Are you going to take him to events?

We probably won't bring him to events. Right now he is very needy, but not sure on the whole unexpected noise thing. We wouldn't want to subject him to lots of people.

He may have been weaned too early as well - Dawn reports that he was trying to suckle her neck.

My cat Gabby ~still~ sucks on all our tshirts, and she's over 3 years old now. Luckily it's kinda cute, because there's no breaking her of it. :-)

Some names just develop as you get to know your cat better.

For example, my name was originally Bobby, but my owners seem to think this name suits me better now.

My vote for a name: Avicenna.

Possible name?

How about Feynman, vor the physicist. He was *quite* the personality and saw things in novel ways, which sounds suitable for a kitten that wants to be up and about and looking at the world from new angles. :-)
