Well, it turns out that if you reattach that peel to the egg with a staple - because you're using the hard-boiled egg as the ball in a game of ping-pong, and want the egg to be whole and relatively smooth - the added weight of the staple makes the egg fly unpredictably as it rotates through the air, exactly like a spitball in baseball.
