After making a salt cure mix for pancetta (now hanging in the oubliette), I was low on the coarse salt I use for such things. The wife bought more on the last grocery run and I emptied the box into the plastic container.

This morning, I discovered that I had actually emptied the box of salt into the identically-sized, but clearly separate, container of caramel sugar. There is a distinct layer at the bottom.

Sounds kinda solvable? Scooping off the salt till you are quite close to the sugar layer, then carefully scoop out the border layer to be used for recipes where you want both salt and sugar?
