There's an extreme satisfaction in successfully setting up someone. Especially if the person (or, in this case, organization) deserves it.

Me (calling a catalog): "I'd like to remove a name from your mailing list."
Person: "All right, may I have the information?"
Me: (gives father-in-law's name)
Person: "May I ask why you would like to be removed?"

Me (waiting for that very question): "Because he's been dead for a year."

Yes, I do have a slight sadistic streak.

I like that. So what was the response?

Hee, hee!

We got to do that to Reader's Digest. My sister said "Because I don't think your magazine will reach him where he is now." "Where is he now?" etc.

too funny! I took a call at my mother-in-law's house, you know the one your father-in-law used to live in, and was asked if < *my* father-in-law> was in. I responded that he was not, having died 10 years ago. After a suitable sympathetic noise, she asked if M-in-L had asked to have his name removed from the account - I replied that three copies of the death certificate had been sent in the year after his death, but Bank of America (the caller) has decided that that he should never-the-less remain on the account. Go figure!
