On the drive in this morning, I had an idea blossom for how to start The Divided Kingdom. It solves an issue that aastg and I hadn't agreed how to address, sets some characterization, and provides information without using Captain Exposition.

Now to work on more than just the opening.

Parking drama

I got in around my usual time this morning. Maybe a couple minutes later, but nothing substantial.
Someone took my parking place!

No, we don't have assigned parking places. That's beside the point. I always park there.
And if this person thinks he's taking my red stapler... well, I might have to set the building on fire.

Watch out. They could be anywhere.

Yesterday I lazily flopped the bathmat on the side of the tub instead of over the curtain rod. (I try to keep it up because it accumulates less cat sand that way.)

When I got up this morning, Galen had taken advantage of its position by settling on it. He was watching the tub faucet intently - in case ninjas poured out or something. I picked him up and plopped him onto some spare towels nearby so that I could place the mat on the floor.

At which, he bapped me on the leg (no claws). I think he was trying to say "I'm guarding you against the ninjas, stupid!"

Then he left. I guess he decided that if I was stupid enough to interfere with his mission, the incipient ninjas were my problem.

Well, I can't argue with the outcome. Except I'm a guy.
