I'm exhausted today. Coffee isn't helping. I nearly missed the bus this morning - fortunately the driver saw me jogging down the hill and didn't sadistically drive off.

Why in such a state? Probably homework (I have a major paper to co-write due next weekend) and I'm flying out later today for a work conference in Las Vegas. I don't expect to have a huge amount of fun; most of these I sit inside the hotel conference room the whole time with a notepad. The wife is coming along, though, so she gets to swan and see the Strip (she's never been before).

Our favorite salted piggy parts people are contributing to an Italian fud & wine thingy that looks like a lot of fun. It's the same day as aimeric and wufmew's wedding, though. Seeing friends is a higher priority!

Ah well. Back to work.

The Star Trek thing closed a few months ago (sadly).

Shopping on the strip is fabboo. For non-shopping related activities, the aquarium at Mandalay is keen, as is the lion enclosure at the MGM.

Too bad you'll be stuck in conferences, but hopefully you'll have some time in the evenings to have dinner together. The dining in Vegas is amazing. The last time I went to Vegas I didn't dump a single quarter into a slot machine, but the moola I spent on food..... damn.

Red Square! One of my favourites. Though last time I was there, I spent the night sleeping on the nice cool, comforting marble on my room's bathroom floor instead of in the bed I was paying $200 a night for, so proceed with caution (and I have *NO* recollection of how I got back to my room...or should I say, how my friends got my sorry drunk butt back to my room). I like their booze, but have had better Russian food elsewhere in Vegas (off strip). One of my other fave bars is also at the Madalay--The Rum Jungle--best Mojitos on the planet. :-)

LOL. I think that last night at Red Square was the drunkest I've ever been in my LIFE. And not an experience I care to repeat any time soon. Thank god I'm not prone to hangovers (I've the liver of a greek goddess) or I'd've really ruined that vacation.
Don't get me wrong--I thought the food at Red Square was very good, just not particularly authentic, but I guess they need to make it appealing to a wide range of guests. Russian food is yummy when done well (and kinda bland and boring when not). I wish I could find a decent place in the South Bay to get some!

ysabella_dolfin found this place. The decor is cheesey and the entertainment the evening we were there consisted of a pretty blonde singer and her accordian. But the FOOD..... ah, yeah. Just set your brain to "campy", drink a little of the house-infused vodka, and enjoy. Make sure to get the pelmeni appetizer.
