Customer Service - what a concept

The wife just got off the phone with the mortgage company. We need to get payoff information from them to the escrow company, to settle the sale of the father-in-law's place.

"What documentation do you need?"
"Let's see... our records show that you're on the account that has been paying the mortgage the last several months. Just a death certificate will do - and we've already sent the payoff information out."

(astonished pause on our end)

Contrast that with the four-hour ordeal we went through with Wells Fargo to close out the accounts there. I know which financial institution I'd deal with again.

I have long ceased all dealings with Wells Fargo, at since their last merger.

Ignoring all the small charges they kept inventing to charge me, when I closed some accounts they gave me a lot of grief.

This is the company that wouldn't close my accounts for several months and tried to charge me for their error.

This is the company that actually charged me making a credit card payment and closing a credit card.

Needless to say, they don't get my business any more, although my parents still do business with them. Credit unions all the way for me.

Oh yeah, the wife uses Washington Mutual, who does seem to have good service.
