L'envy ... I suppose we could have done that, but neither of us thought of it, and I was so tired I fell asleep watching the movie of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy ... sigh.
I can't compare all of them all that well, but I can say that King Crab is the richest crab meat I've tasted. It's very expensive, and rightly so ... wow. (I had some when I was in Duch Harbor, Alaska -- one of the, if not the biggest King Crab harvesting places in the world, and they're not harvested from a lot of places -- had a whole leg -- about 3' long -- placed in front of me -- eeeek!)
You thought King actually had a richer taste than Dungeness? Hm, apparently my memories from 30 years ago are faulty... we had fresh King crab in AK and although it was terrific, we thought Dungeness was superior in flavor. King certainly gives you more meat in those enormous round legs.
Well, I haven't done a side-by-side comparison of the two, but I did just have it on the cruise in June, and was blown away (again) by how rich it was. Even without the butter ... it's been awhile since I've had Dungeness, and perhaps there's some "Alaska Pride" thing going on in my fuzzy head, but to date, the richest tasting crab I've ever had was Alaska King. I also haven't tried some of the many varieties out there, but of the ones I've tried ...
Actually no, we drank a nice Sauvignon Blanc. (One of these days we'll actually tour the Anchor Brewery - it's just on the other side of the hill from us.)
