madbaker: (life is good)

I called the local bookstore to order a book coming out next month.
Person: May I have your name?
Me:madbaker (using my first name).
Person:The madbaker?
Me:No, just a madbaker. I come in six-packs.
(Bonus points if you correctly place the line, but not very many. It's an easy reference.)

Well, yes.
They know my name at the bookstore because, sadly, I'm one of their best customers. And I usually order ahead of time.

Not that I'll be travelling up the peninsula *just* for a bookstore... which one?

I'm reminded of A. Whitney Brown's line: "My name is A. Whitney Brown. In two years, I'll be The Whitney Brown."

Specifically just after he enters the reception area of the Offices of The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, he is on his way to see Zarniwhoop (cos he told himself he needed to) this is just before he gets together with Marvin again and they have a ride in a rather weird (and scared) elevator.

Damn... do i have this whole series memorized?

Zaphod vs the receptionist is probably one of my favorite scenes in the entire series. The six-pack line rates right up there with the other great line in the scene, "Listen, three eyes, don't try to outweird me. I get stranger things than you free with my breakfast cereal."

Note to self: Pick up DVD's of DNA's DR Who episodes. Dunno if the Pirate Planet is out yet, but I know I've seen City of Death somewhere...

Or you could just re-read his later books, where he shamelessly reused the Dr. Who plots he'd already written.
